How do I set up an account to access The Health Grid?

The Health Grid is hosted and managed for us by Dreamland Metaverse.  To participate in activities on The Health Grid, you will need to select an avatar and create a free account using the tools provided by our hosts.

To begin, click “Register” in the navigation bar at the top of this page, then select “User Signup” from the drop-down menu.

Next, select one of the avatar models that will be provided.  You will then be asked to enter your name and email address and to create a password for your avatar account.  When you have completed the registration process, return to this “FAQ” page to learn how to download and install the Firestorm Viewer so you can join us on The Health Grid.

I have created an account. Now, how do I access The Health Grid?

To access The Health Grid, you will need to download a free viewer such as FireStorm.  The viewer is  like a web browser for immersive environments allowing you to navigate “inworld” and communicate with others.  FireStorm is  one of several such viewers that are available.

Download and install FireStorm for OpenSim by selecting the correct download link for your computer’s operating system from the list below:

After the installation is complete, start FireStorm and click “Viewer” in the upper left-hand corner of the window.  Select “Preferences” from the drop-down menu, then the “Opensim” and “Grid Manager”  tabs.    In the “Add new grid” field enter the following:  “http://dream.thehealthgrid.org:9304”.  Click “OK” to close the “Preferences” window.

In the “Log In” panel at the bottom of the FireStorm window, type your avatar’s first and last name in the “Username” field.  This will normally be your real name unless you chose to create an avatar using an alias.  Enter your password and make sure that “The Health Grid” is selected in the “Log into Grid” field.  Click “Log In”.

After a little time, your avatar will appear in the viewer.  Use your arrow keys to move forward or backward and to turn left or right.  See additional FAQ items for more information on navigating and communicating “Inworld”.
